In “Civil War,” tanks trample democracy. But the messages they send may be more dangerous than the violence depicted onscreen: The collapse of democracy is inevitable. In the film, Humphrey Bogart plays Rick, the cynical owner of a Moroccan nightclub at the onset of World War II. John Springer Collection/Corbis Historical/Getty ImagesOther World War II-era films like “Don’t be a Sucker,” which emphasized racial and religious tolerance in America, emphasized the same message. How Humans Failed Racehorses

It was a welcome conclusion for the multibillion-dollar sport imperiled by frequent racing fatalities, reckless breeding, dodgy doping practices and the old-fashioned greed of veterinarians, trainers and owners. Last year, 12 horses perished at Churchill Downs in the days surrounding the famous race. Two weeks later, a horse trained by one of the sport’s most recognized trainers died at Pimlico Race Course. Ambulances rumbled onto the track, emergency workers erected privacy screens and, behind them, vets euthanized the horses with injections. All of it put the social acceptability of one of America’s oldest sports at risk.

On his ever-growing collection of billion-dollar franchise roles, and playing with dinosaurs nextMikkelsen as Kaecilius in "Doctor Strange." Did you have that issue at all while filming "Doctor Strange"? We did have that in "Doctor Strange," to a degree. And that there's a very good reason for that because "Doctor Strange" is born from a psychedelic graphic novel, which was very different from the other ones. The most fun must've been "Doctor Strange" because I got to do two things I love: doing magic and flying Kung Fu.

Kai Micah Mills is a rare cryonics entrepreneur in the latest batch of Thiel Fellows. His startup Cryopets aims to establish a chain of animal hospitals set up to freeze pets upon death. When he was 14, Kai Micah Mills brought home a long-haired tabby cat and named it Cat. Someday, he hopes to expand to human preservation, as the science matures and pet owners warm to the idea. Mills hasn't figured out a pricing structure yet, but says pet owners will make a payment that covers their pet's storage for as long as necessary.
